Americans’ Confidence in Job Market Hits New Low, AP-NORC Poll Finds

Americans are growing increasingly concerned about their ability to land a good job, according to a recent survey by AP-NORC. Nearly half of U.S. adults say they are “not very” or “not at all confident” they could find a quality job if they needed to, representing a significant rise from this question’s last reading two years ago. Many respondents cite stubborn inflation, hiring freezes and a more uncertain employer climate as factors in the shift. Though official unemployment figures remain modest, job growth has slowed substantially, further eroding public confidence in the labor market. Younger adults report the steepest drop in optimism, and even among those who are employed or feel secure, few say they are getting ahead. With Americans’ view of the economy already dim, this lack of faith in job prospects could dampen both consumer spending and broader economic momentum in the months ahead.
